Knowing that Darren and I needed to finish the recap of our vacation, we decided to set aside time to update the blog as our FHE activity.
One of the days in Hawaii we drove the famous "Road to Hana". Its compared to driving through the Garden of Eden. Its full of lush vegetation, stunning coastal views and A LOT of waterfalls.
One of the favorite things we did on this trip was this unknown hike we did along the road to Hana. It was at a state park where there was a waterfall in plain site. Most people didn't know that about 15 minutes up from

the little waterfall was this gorgeous waterfall and pool that you could swim in. It was quite the task to get there - we had to climb up a thin trail that was coated in mud (we were filthy by the time we hiked back down), walk across a thin bridge with nothing to hold on to . . . but it was so worth it. We were the only ones there and were able to enjoy the peace and beauty of it by ourselves.

One of the other stops we made along the way was at Wai'anapanapa Park. Its famous for its black sand beaches, but it also has spring-fed freshwater caves. As much as the water was freezing and we weren't totally pumped to get in the water, we figured it was one of those things where you've got to bite the bullet and do it just so you can say that you swam in a freshwater pool in an underwater cave in Hawaii.
The last day we were in Hawaii we decided to drive up to the Haleakala crater. It was somewhat of an overcast day, but I don't we think expected the weather we experienced when we made it to the top. Darren was the skilled driver of our jeep - hugging all the switchbacks as we made our way up the mountain and hit rain, wind, thick fog . . .once at the top, we experienced temperatures in the 40s and crazy wind. Thank goodness we purchased hoodies a couple days before or we would have frozen!!

Well, that about sums it up. Here we are the afternoon before we flew home. It was a great trip and we hope to go back some day.
Aloha

Loved the road to Hana. The best part of the drive was the way back when Dan and I got behind a tow truck that was tearing down that ridiculously curvy road at 35 mph or so and Dan kept up with him. It was scary and fun all at once. The tow truck driver had a lot of fun seeing if he could throw Dan off and when he finally pulled over to pick up a car he cheered and gave us a 'thumbs up.' We are so cool.
Come to think of it, it was a miracle we didn't die on that road.
I've told Dan that if we continue to live in snowy weather we are going to have to start a tradition of travelling somewhere warm to break up the nasty winter. I'm dying here.
