Family of Four

Today the Downs family became a family of four instead of three. Earlier this afternoon, we were blessed to become the parents to a precious 1 year old boy that we have named Noah. How did this all come about?...

On Tuesday (yes, 3 days ago), our adoption agency contacted us about a darling 1 year old boy they were looking to place. We'd been hesitant to adopt anything other than a new born baby up to this point, but for some reason, we felt curious about this little boy. We found ourselves asking to be presented to the birth mother as a potential adoptive family and from there, it all happened so quickly.

On Wednesday, our little man's birth mother (we'll call her "L") picked us based on our adoption profile. We then had a conference call with her and she was so sweet and unassuming. We got off the phone and minutes later, the agency contacted us about meeting L for lunch on Thursday so we could meet her little one and she could meet us and Caleb...L said Caleb was the main reason she loved our profile - that he was smiling in every single picture!

So, we met L for lunch and things just continued to fall into place. Noah came home with us that afternoon and he hasn't left us since. It was made official this afternoon and Noah is now a member of our family. He is enamored of Caleb at this point and just follows him around. He is a happy little boy and so far the transition has been smooth for which we are counting our blessings. Noah will turn 1 on December 11th so we will get to celebrate his first birthday with him!

I am so grateful for adoption and for the chance it has given me and Darren to be parents not just once, but a second time now. The few paragraphs above are such an abbreviated tale of our adoption journey, but right now we just feel so blessed to have both Caleb and Noah in our lives we wanted to share it, even as brief as it is, with all our friends and loved ones :)
