Caleb officially turned 5 on September 24, 2014 and it's been a long time coming. Caleb has been asking about his birthday for months and I, for one, am glad that it is now over.
Caleb had a great day the entire day of his birthday. When he first woke us, he got to open a present - cowboy boots. Stylish!!
I let him pick what he wanted for breakfast and he chose donuts. So we went to Madbrook (in his stylish pajamas and cowboy boot outfit) - his favorite place. I even let him get root beer for breakfast!! And not just 1 donut, but 2!

After breakfast, we went to the gym where they proceeded to make him a special birthday hat and sing happy birthday to him.
And after that, we had preschool. I had was lucky enough to make a VIP poster of Caleb to share with his class. AND he got to bring the snack for the day. AND he got to be the Miss Haley's special helper for the day.
Then it was time for his birthday party which was a big success. The kids all had a blast! I do owe a big thank you to my mom and dad, Darren and Grandma Lu for their help - I couldn't have managed all 7 kids without their presence! Caleb wanted to have a pirate party so we could have a treasure hunt and that's what we did.
We got eyepatches and pirate accessories for the kids to wear.

The first thing we did was have the kids decorate their own pirate spy glass.
Then we headed outside for a treasure hunt!
The kids had to follow the map and get through the obstacles . . . walking the plank, climbing the cargo net, swabbing the deck, and popping the cannonballs! The kids found the treasure pretty easily.
After all the little pirates ate some pizza, it was time for gifts!
Then the all important birthday cake!!
Then the party was over and all of us adults just about collapsed!! Caleb had such a great time, he is already asking about next year . . . great.
To top it all off, a couple of days later, we had the Downs side of the family over for cake and ice cream to finish celebrating Caleb's birthday. That meant more cake (its a mustache) and more presents!
