Thank Goodness for the hospital down the street . . .

So, this story has been told many, many times, and I don't think that I will ever live it down.
We had spent Friday afternoon (August 30th) swimming at my parents house.
On the drive home, around 7pm, my stomach started not feeling so great.
It continued to get worse and it wasn't getting better.  I figured I was in for a long night of the stomach flu and I got the kids to bed and told Darren to go to bed too because he had a big bike ride planned for Saturday morning.
It kept getting worse, and clearing out my stomach wasn't helping.  I was deliriously tired and in pain.
I knew Urgent Care closed at midnight.  At 11:50, I hopped in my car and drove myself to Urgent Care.  Once there, they actually directed me to the ER and checked me in immediately based on my pain level.  They started running tests and did a scan and discovered that I had a very enlarged appendix and it needed to come out!!  My surgery got scheduled for 8am.
At this point, I need to point out that Darren was home, asleep.
I sent him a text at midnight, letting him know I was at the ER.
I sent another text around 3am once I got the appendicitis diagnosis.
Then I texted him at 6am letting him know my surgery was at 8am.
Luckily for me, he was waking up at 6am . . . to discover that I was not in the bed next to him . . .
and to a text about my scheduled surgery.
Needless to say, he jumped right in, called my parents, got them to come be with the boys.
Got to the hospital and took care of me.
Since then, I have been sufficiently talked to about waking someone else up if there is an emergency, not driving oneself to the ER, and not trying to do things like that on my own.
I look back on it now, and its no wonder why all the staff kept asking me if I was there alone . . .
In my defense, I don't think I was really in the right frame of mind . . . but hey, it all turned out all right.
